What is a prayer cloth?
Prayer cloths are found in the Bible and have been an essential aspect of healing. The cloths, in and of themselves, have no healing power. The cloths represent God’s healing power through prayer. Traditionally, prayer cloths were taken from the clothing of believers and placed upon those who were in need of healing.
Acts 19:11-12 says, God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul; so that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. Paul touched these cloths, also called, “aprons and handkerchiefs,” which were taken to those who were sick and needed to be healed. According to Matthew 9:20 and Matthew 14:35-37, many people were healed by Jesus when He allowed them to touch His clothes.
How do prayer cloths work now?
Christians who have faith touch the cloths while praying for the power of God to heal them. The prayer cloth provides a point of contact for the release of a person’s faith. It is a point of agreement between that person and the Lord. Prayer cloths can be used for people who are dying, sick, lonely, experiencing traumas or personal difficulties. As was stated previously, there is no healing power in the cloth itself. The healing comes when the person who receives the cloth has faith in the healing power of God. Mark 11:22-24 (NIV) says,
Have faith in God.Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, (i.e. any problem or sickness) “Go throw yourself into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.
How do I use a prayer cloth?
If you are praying for yourself, place the prayer cloth directly on the part of your body that needs healing. If you are praying for someone else, you can place the cloth on the part of the person’s body that needs healing or you can place it on their heart or you can hold it as you pray for them.
How does the person I’m praying for use the prayer cloth?
The person can carry the cloth with them or place it where they spend most of their time. It is important that the person understands that the prayer cloth is only a conduit for God’s healing power. God told the Israelites in Exodus 15:26 , “I am the Lord who heals you.” God still heals today. So, faith in God and belief in His Word will result in the healing of a person who uses a prayer cloth.
