Reaction was swift to Friday’s 5-4 decision of the U.S. Supreme Court that made gay marriage a right under the U.S. Constitution. Gay marriage pro-ponents celebrated, but many in the Christian com-munity mourned. Why? Because the High Court’s ruling completely rejected God’s divine order of marriage being between a man and a woman (Read about the first marriage that God ordained in Genesis 2).
As witnessed time and time again in the Bible, disobedience to God’s Divine laws brings down judgment upon those who replace His plans with their own. For instance, Numbers 16:41-50, NIV, tells us how the Israelites murmured against Aaron and Moses after God punished Korah, a Levite, and 250 tribal leaders for their rejection of God’s appointment of Aaron as High Priest and Moses, as Israel’s leader. God sent a plague throughout the Israeli community and Moses directed Aaron to make an “atonement” (reconciliation to God) for the people:Then Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer and put incense in it, along with burning coals from the altar, and hurry to the assembly to make atonement for them. Wrath has come out from the Lord; the plague has started.” Numbers 16:46, NIV
What does this have to do with America?
Although the stories in the Bible involve ancient Israel, God does not change and neither does His laws, teachings and instructions, which means His truths still ring true today. This means that God’s rules still apply to us because the United States was founded upon biblical principles. However, because of our willingness to reject our foundation and replace God’s laws with our own, we have placed ourselves in position for God’s judgment to fall on this country.
While the United States has incurred God’s judgment, that does not mean that God has withdrawn His Divine, Perfect Love from our country. Unlike man’s love which is fleeting and conditional, God’s Divine Love is permanent and unconditional. Why? Because through God’s Love for His creation, His Son, Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice of giving His life as an atonement for the sin of humankind.
For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. John 3:16, Amplified Bible
Just as Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest, made atonement to reconcile us to God, Aaron, Israel’s high priest who is a type (a divine illustration) of Jesus Christ, made atonement to God on ancient Israel’s behalf:
…but Aaron offered the incense and made atonement for them. He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped. Numbers 16:47, NIV
What are we to do?
We are to intercede in prayer for our country (Ezekiel 22:30). Here are three main prayer points:
1. Pray for the five majority U.S. Supreme Court Justices who cast the majority vote making gay marriage a Constitutional Right: Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan, Anthony Kennedy, and Sonia Sotomayer. They must bear the weight of their ungodly ruling.
2. Pray that God would show mercy upon our nation in the time of judgment.
3. Pray that many souls will come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior during the time of shaking.
The heavenly gavel has gone down on God’s judicial bench and He has rendered a “guilty” verdict upon the United States of America. Pray that we will be able to withstand the unprecedented events that are coming upon our nation.
