If you are in need of (and are expecting) a turnaround, a fresh start and a new direction in 2016, then The Comeback: It’s Not Too Late and You’re Never Too Far is for you.
Author Louie Giglio, pastor of Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia, has written a book to show his readers how they can go through – and get to the other side of – the obstacles they are currently facing. Pastor Giglio says that God is “in the business of giving fresh starts to people,” and proves this statement by highlighting his personal experiences as well as those of others. For instance, Pastor Giglio tells of his battle with anxiety-driven depression that gripped his life and how he slowly emerged from his tunnel of darkness only by the hand and grace of God.Pastor Giglio’s stories also includes that of a 35-year-old computer technician whose wife and daughter died in January 2010 when a massive earthquake struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His 7-year-old daughter survived but was trapped in the rubble of their destroyed home. Whether the people the author mentions were dealing with mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, financial, or relationship problems, the focus of the story stays on God’s goodness. Pastor Giglio writes, “God is always good, and God’s plans will always prevail, even when our plans don’t. Or when they need to be changed.
Pastor Giglio also refers to characters in the Bible who made mistakes and with God’s help, made a turnaround in their lives. In Chapter 7: “Breakfast on the Beach,” the author focuses on Peter and his denial of Jesus Christ. After His resurrection, Jesus had a one-on-one conversation with Peter after preparing fish on the beach for His disciples (John 21:9). In a straightforward manner, Jesus demonstrated His grace and mercy in restoring Peter.
Pastor Giglio does not gloss over tough questions, such as, “Why did God allow this to happen?” or topics such as “death” where there is no comeback, at least not in this life. However, the author points his readers to Jesus, the only answer we have in all circumstances.
If you want to start 2016 determined to place Jesus Christ in the center of your current circumstances or you are simply in need of encouragement because of your situation, then by all means, start reading The Comeback: It’s Not Too Late and You’re Never Too Far as soon as you can.
Giglio writes, … no matter what we might be walking through, we can still have confidence that Jesus is the God of the comeback and that our story is not over as long as Jesus is in it.
