Let’s Remember Jesus

As we prepare for our Passover observance, Good Friday programs, or Easter celebrations, may we not forget Jesus Christ and what He has done for us.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of buying groceries for our holiday meals, making Easter baskets, decorating eggs for the Easter Egg hunt, packing for our Easter-break vacation, and other holiday-related activities.

While there is nothing wrong with these activities in and of themselves, our main focus must remain on Jesus Christ and His work on the Cross. This is the true meaning of this season.

So, let’s press the “pause” button of our lives to ask the question: “What did Jesus Christ do for us?”:

1. Jesus Christ became our Passover Lamb and paid the penalty for our sin so we will no longer have to face sin’s consequences.

But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Galatians 3:13 NLT

Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us. 1 Corinthians 5:7 NLT

2. Jesus Christ deprived Satan of the power of death that he had over us because of the sin of Adam.

Because God’s children are human beings–made of flesh and blood–the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he died, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Hebrews 2:14 NLT

3. Jesus Christ reconciled us to God The Father through His death, burial and resurrection.

For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. Colossians 1:19-20, NLT

4. Jesus Christ brought God’s peace to us and now that we have been made right – or declared righteous– in God’s sight.

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Romans 5:1, NLT

5. Jesus Christ has granted us access to God’s grace, which is God’s unmerited favor to us.

Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. Romans 5:2, NLT

There is no way we can list all that Christ has done for us. However, the most important fact to remember is Jesus Christ took the weight of our sin and became our sacrifice so that He could secure our eternal life with God the Father.

If Jesus Christ sacrificed His life so that we could become the children of God, the very least we can do is commit our lives to Him and continually thank Him for all that He has done for us.

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12, NLT
