Lessons From The Seattle Seahawks

It’s not unusual to compare football games to real-life situations. So, it’s not surprising that Sunday’s battle for the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks had the intensity of a cinematic or made-for-TV movie with life lessons on faith and  thrown in to round out the story.

The last-minute comeback of the Seattle Seahawks to win the game 28-22 and clinch the NFC title is truly encouraging to people who are almost ready to give up. There are several life lessons to take away from the game, and here are a few of them:

 1. You may be down but you’re not out. There were 4 minutes left in the fourth quarter and Seattle was trailing 19-7 when a miracle happened, the team scored 2 touchdowns, sending the game into overtime. You may be facing physical, mental, financial, or emotional challenges that have caused you to feel as if your life has gotten off course and you’re  trailing behind others that you know. If this is the case, remember where you are now is only a snapshot of your life, not the entire picture. Have faith to believe that God will help you move past your present challenges.

2 . Don’t expect everyone to support you when you’re at your lowest point. Scores of Seattle fans left the game early when the Packers were in the lead and it seemed as if all hope was lost for the Seahawks. This shows that if your circumstances don’t change within a certain period of time, don’t be surprised if people who you thought were “in your corner,” walk out on you. Don’t worry, God will send you new friends to replace the ones who walked away. Your true friends will go through the tough times with you.

3. Only a select few will be around to celebrate your come-back. Some of the Seahawks fans who left early saw that the tide had turned for the team but because they left the stadium, they were not allowed re-entry. So, they missed the Seahawks’ epic come-back. When God moves miraculously in your circumstances, it’s going to be so quick, it will make your head spin, just like what happened at the end of the Seahawks-Packers game. Those who walked out on you may hear about your turn-around, but if they want to come back into your life, you must truly pray about whether to allow your “fair-weather friend” to re-enter your life or wish them well and move on.

After the Seahawks’ miracle, quarterback Russell Wilson and other players knelt down, bowed their heads and said a prayer to publicly acknowledge that their victory came from God.

If you’re going through difficult times, take heart and learn the lessons from the football game. Your deliverance will come from God, not of your own efforts, and in your excitement, don’t forget to take a moment, like the Seahawks players, and thank God for what He has done for you.
